HFGI Back To School Outreach Report

Hope Foundation for Grassroots Impact (HFGI)
October 9th – 11th, 2024

Overview:

Hope Foundation for Grassroots Impact (HFGI) successfully completed a three-day Back To School Outreach project, reaching a total of 300 school children across three locations in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States. This outreach, which took place between the 9th and 11th of October 2024, aimed to address the gap in access to basic educational resources faced by children in underserved communities. Through the provision of educational materials, school uniforms, and personal encouragement, we were able to foster a sense of purpose in their pursuit of education. With the generous support from our donors, we were able to make a tangible impact on the lives of these children.

Day 1 – October 9, 2024: Odo Ona Primary School, Ibadan, Oyo State

Our outreach began at Odo Ona Primary School in Ibadan, Oyo State, where our team engaged over 70 children through interactive discussions, activities, and games centered on the importance of education. These activities aimed at encouraging the children to value learning, pursue their education, and understand the opportunities that come with academic success.

We distributed educational resources, including: Notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners, and socks.

Additionally, we had identified 10 students during our pre-assessment visits who were in urgent need of new uniforms due to the condition of their old ones. These students were provided with new school uniforms, which helped them regain confidence and take pride in their appearance.

The day was filled with excitement and gratitude as the children received the resources, with several memorable moments captured in photos during the distribution.

Day 2 – October 10, 2024: Community Nursery and Primary School, Ayaa, Ogun State

On the second day, our team visited the Community Nursery and Primary School in Ayaa, Ogun State. Here, we were able to impact 140 children, distributing much-needed educational materials such as notebooks, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and socks.

In addition, 7 children were provided with new school bags, as we had observed during our pre-assessment visit that many students lacked proper school bags, some carrying their materials in plastic bags or holding them by hand.

Similarly, 10 children were given new school uniforms after we identified the need for replacements during our earlier visit.

The students and staff at Community Nursery and Primary School expressed immense gratitude for the support, with the school principal giving a heartfelt vote of thanks on behalf of the school, appreciating the impact we had on their students.

Day 3 – October 11, 2024: Mercy Best Academy, Iyana Oworo, Lagos

The final day of the outreach brought us to Mercy Best Academy in Iyana Oworo, Lagos, where we engaged with 90 children. We provided them with essential educational materials and further addressed the need for school bags and uniforms.

A total of 10 children were provided with new school bags, having noted during our pre-assessment visit that their old bags were either worn-out or missing entirely. In addition, 10 children received new school uniforms, restoring their confidence and ensuring they could attend school in proper attire.

This final day also coincided with the International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated globally on October 11. We seized the opportunity to focus on this year’s theme, “Girl’s Vision for the Future,” by encouraging the girls to dream big, to embrace education, and to recognize their capacity to shape their futures.

The session was both emotional and empowering, especially for Praise, a young girl who was deeply moved by the messages we shared. She expressed her gratitude to the HFGI team, stating that the lessons she learned from the session would stay with her for life.
