On July 23, 2022, Hope Catalyst Initiative had the privilege of visiting Toluwani Special Needs Center in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Upon our arrival, the coordinator in charge of Toluwani Special Needs Center graciously introduced us to the children and explained the various types of disabilities they face. We learned about how each child came to be at the center, the care they receive, and the challenges they overcome daily. The children we met had a range of physical and learning disabilities, but what stood out most was their resilience and the joy they expressed in our presence. It was truly a privilege to meet them and hear their stories.
During the outreach, we also conducted a skill acquisition session, focusing on a practical demonstration of how to make doughnuts. One of the children, inspired by the demonstration, decided to try it. Watching him engage and learn brought smiles to everyone’s faces. It was a moment of shared learning, fun, and empowerment, showing the children that they are capable of achieving new skills. We left with our hearts full, knowing that we had made a positive impact on the lives of these incredible children.
